I posted a video a few years ago on YouTube showing how to use a Midas M32R digital mixer as a USB interface. In my case it’s with Ableton Live.
The other day I received a comment from a viewer that wanted to be able to change the recording level going to Ableton from the fader on the mic channel instead of the pre-amp. This comes in handy when you want to go out of the channel with the compressor and EQ engaged. This was much easier to understand with the old mixers and patch bays but with the new digital boards there are many virtual switches in the mixer to route the signal many different ways. Plus you can save your scenes so instead of getting lost in a pile of patch cords you can just recall a scene and your patch is made instantaneously.
We’re going to start by setting up your input to the mixer. In this case we are selecting Local 1-8 block to Inputs 1-8.
Next we’re setting the card 1-8 to Output 1-8. The terminology is a little confusing but this is sending Outputs 1-8 to Inputs 1-8 in Ableton Live.
Next we set Output 3 from the Direct out of Channel 3 Post Fader.
Watch the video below if that helps.
